DWEM has extensive experience in ecologically based wildfire management that stems from a strong background in fire suppression and fire and forest ecology. DWEM has been at the forefront of wildfire and fuels management in the province and strives to find innovative and effective solutions for its clients.
DWEM wildfire management planning has concentrated in the area of wildfire and fuel management planning and implementation within protected areas and the urban-wildland interface. Projects have concentrated on: reducing the wildfire risk to sensitive ecosystems and within interface areas; ecosystem based fuel treatment prescription development and implementation; and assisting with the promotion of FireSmart developments for communities, First Nations, and developers.
DWEM also works with construction contractors, developers, and industry to ensure that their work sites are in compliance with provincial legislation and regulations. We help risk-reduce work sites and develop fire management plans that allow companies to pursue exemptions from stop work restrictions.
