DWEM has worked closely with local First Nations since company inception. First Nations have comprised over 50% of our prescribed burn and suppression crews and we have trained over 100 members of the Lilwat Nation in this capacity. While working with First Nations, DWEM promotes ‘job-shadowing’ in order for First Nations members to gain experience, skills and the capacity to carry out future work independently.
DWEM has also worked with First Nations to promote the traditional uses of fire; from enhancing berry crops to habitat restoration.
